The Battle Belongs to the Lord – Songs of the Soldier #1

In 1979, when Scripture choruses were just being sung and worship had not yet become more popular than Contemporary Christian music, I was given a commission to put into song Scriptures that would encourage and uplift followers of Jesus Christ as they battled through the trials of their lives. The songs on this original album, recorded in 1990, were chosen to encourage a missionary who had labored 25 years to bring the message of hope and redemption to people in China. I hope they encourage you as well. (read the full story…)

    Hi Carolyn,
I was just listening to your music. Very nice! You are not only a talented writer, but a talented singer! I especially liked “I Need To Trust You” . It reminded me of in your book Steady Hedy when your friend told you to believe God, not just believe IN God.

Mary, so nice to find you in the music! You’re so right about that Scripture song—Proverbs 3:5, 6. Hard not to lean on my own understanding! One reason is because when we think only from our own human perspective, we limit God. Who would have guessed that I’d be on the finishing stretch of a brand new album with full instrumentation and delightful young people from three different churches? God is full of surprises that are far beyond what we can ask or even think. I’ll keep you posted on the progress of the album. I’m so excited to share it!

Carolyn, ah, my dear new friend in Christ!

I just “found” this site and am so delighted to hear your Scripture Songs!
“The Eyes of the Lord” was not only hauntingly beautiful but so uplifting to sink into the Word feeling the Presence, warmth, and provisioned love of God encasing troubled places. Thank you.

I have so much to learn.

Nancy, I’m so glad you found the music. I hope it encourages you to write your own scripture songs, since God has given you the same kind of blessing of putting the words in catchy tunes and rhythms. I hope my songs become part of the joy of the Lord that is hidden in your heart as you face whatever comes in this difficult and exciting life on Earth.
