Catching Up

Dear Ones,

For a change, I’m early. Actually, I’m very late. I didn’t tell you I published a new book in March. It is called “And This Is How I Lived,” and is 45 of my favorite stories from 10 books published by Earthen Vessel in the last 25 years. The theme is story — how we all have them, and the value of telling them, and how people pioneered and made new lives in difficult places. On the cover is a portrait of my mom. It appears she is looking at the photo of the scrawny little boy next to her on the right. It’s my dad, her future husband of more than 50 years. I thought that was funny.

On my dad’s birthday in July, I published a book on his inventions. Microcurrent takes up the majority of the pages, but did you know he was also responsible for the success of drag racing at the Pomona Fairgrounds? Yes, that scrappy little farm boy loved fast cars, and told me that he had to get the Magnum with the Hemi because it was a safety feature. He was in his 90s at the time.

After that, I attended 12 on-line summits on health, including three on the brain, two on cancer, two on autoimmunity, and webinars on EMFs, IBS and SIBO, GMOs, and food. They were free, but each episode was live for only 24 hours, so it kept me tied to my computer for months because they occurred one after another, and sometimes simultaneously.

But each subject really fit my need to know, and now I am a lot more informed about the microbiome and what makes a person subject to disease and how to heal even impossible incurable ones. There was even a lot on the healing of Lyme disease, and all the protocols were designed using the principles of functional medicine, which fits my own background in natural healing with herbs, energy, and trauma release.

However, there’s only so much room on the hard drive. I’m giving up on watching for now. I’m implementing changes in my lifestyle and food choices and have been sleeping better and helping my gut bacteria be happier. My latest checkup for scleroderma shows I’m holding steady, with even a slight improvement in my immune system. I still intend to be symptom-free and free of any markers that show the disease is still there, but with all those webinars, I’m armed and implementing, and I hope to share some of it with you this next year.

In October Dan and I took a roadtrip to Washington to the Women Writing the West conference, my annual chance to see friends who love words and history and story. It’s always refreshing and inspiring. It was also way up north, and we were close enough to visit Brigadoon, an extraordinary facility preparing dogs for service. Owner/Founder Denise Costanten, with more than forty years of experience training and breeding dogs, graciously gave us time out of a packed schedule to tour the facility and answer our questions. I will be posting in more detail on that visit, which was astonishing because Denise is, herself, astonishing in what she knows and how she prepares each dog for its forever person. Just a glimpse to let you know why I think Brigadoon is so special—Denise trains inmates to train the dogs. It’s just win win win every direction because of her vision and expertise.

Now I’m home and I’m finally back to working on my heart’s desire, which I promised months ago to tell you about before fires and smoke and all the uncertainty burned through our summer. Rain, welcome and cleansing, has now washed the air, helped put out the fires, and caused us all to breathe more deeply — literally.

So what is this project I wanted to tell you about? Drum roll, please.

Fourteen years ago, Dan and I co-authored a musical for the teenagers of Summer Theatre Workshop, a theater group we co-produced for six years. “Even In Shadow” was a tremendous success with stories that were as dramatic off stage as on, and I have longed to revise and revive it, and to tell the stories that are behind it.

I am currently in my second draft of the revision, with new songs added and exciting concepts in characterization and staging that we didn’t have time to do when we were “running before the wolves,” writing new dialogue every evening when rehearsals were through. But that’s a story for later. For now, I’m just happy to finally have the time and energy to tell you about it, and I look forward to reliving this beautifully meaningful time in my life which came about largely because the kids in the group were exceptional human beings with hearts so courageous they wouldn’t let Dan and me quit the project when we saw no way to bring it about.

May God bless you and your loved ones with His peace as we are catapulted headlong into the coming year.

Carolyn & Hedy

PS: Just before we left for Washington, Hedy was diagnosed as having a cancerous Mast Cell tumor. We began treating her with natural supplements, especially B17 from apricot seeds, and topical anti-tumoral agents such as Hydrogen Peroxide and Myrrh and Frankincense essential oils. We also changed her diet from processed food to raw meat and vegetables. Not only did the tumor shrink to nothing, her energy shot up, as well as her enthusiasm for mealtime. If you know Labs, you know they love to eat, but multiply that by two, and you now know how excited Hedy is every time she sees the bowl coming her way.

Hi, I want to get your book about your dad! My mom has been having Microcurrent therapy for her chronic pain (she is 92) and is very happy that it is working well for her. I told her that your dad invented it and she wants to know all about it.

Hi, Mary! It makes me so happy to hear that your mom is getting relief from microcurrent! My dad would be pleased. And, believe me, when she reads the book, she will learn a whole lot about microcurrent, it’s uses, it’s effects, and the story behind it all.

To order, click on the cover at the end of the post and it will take you directly to amazon where you can order on the spot and have it in 2 days. It’s amazing how fast they are.

Please send my blessings to your mom as she continues to receive healing frequencies through this remarkable modality.

    Hello, Carolyn!
First, I am tremendously happy about Hedy’s healing progress. That is wonderful news♥️

Your ministry is ever widening and deepening, all to the benefit of those who know and love you, and for the glory of the Lord. Thank you for your service to Him.
    Love you so very much♥️

Thank you, Nancy. A big hug back to you and lots of tail wags from Hedy, whom Dan has noted has become a puppy at mealtimes. She does a lot of smiling, leaping, and bounding when she smells that raw meat and vegetables. She loves broccoli and carrots as much as she enjoys treats.

I’m so grateful that all this information of cutting edge research is now available free from the integrated health community. We live in such a small area that no functional medicine practitioners are here, but these summits have brought astonishing information into my home, and it has changed my lifestyle considerably. As I said, I intend to share it on this website. It’s too good to keep to myself.

We’re in the season I think of you most fondly, for you and your family decorated my parents’ house the Christmas of 1993, and you drew them both closer to the Savior Whose love you lavished upon them after my dad’s near-fatal post-surgery debacle. God’s best blessings upon you and your household.

Thank you, Joan. For a while Hedy wasn’t coming to church. Didn’t want to get out of bed. Felt so strange. Now she’s like a puppy with lots of energy, eager to go go go. What a blessing! She was raised in church by her Colorado puppy raiser family (they also sang on the worship team!) and she likes to be in the center of the prayer circle. So I’m really thrilled to have my girl back again.

Hi, Kathie. You might want to consider coming to next year’s WWW conference. It’s going to be in San Antonio, TX, and our hotel is right on the famous River Walk. The theme is about remembering, and the Alamo is right there, along with a host of other historic sites. I really enjoyed your presentation at a WWW long ago. Perhaps you will be able to share with us once more. We’d love to see you there.

    Great news Carolyn…
I’ve done some of the same: listening to so many webinars hours upon hours. I also put out my own Summit with a colleague: the Parent Empowering Summit. We had some wonderful guest speakers, many from the different summits I listened to.
My 12-year old pitbull is having some skin tumors… Will try the topical remedy you suggested. Thanks. Some of her back teeth are also black… did not see that until too late. For now, I am using colloidal silver, trying to avoid surgery (both because of the trauma it might cause her and the expense.)
3 of my colleagues lost their homes in the fires in Paradise and Malibu. So sad. Thankfully, they were able to save their pets.
I just finished teaching another 13 weeks at OLLI/UNLV (for seniors who want to keep educating themselves). Subject: Blueprint for Holistic Health, where I taught my 5 Keys to Health and Wellness: 1. Vibrant Health (nutrition, movement, detox, nature…) 2. The tapping techniques 3. Mental Fitness Training 4. Imagineering and the Power of the Mind in Healing 5. Love, Life and Miracles… About energy and quantum physics.
Interesting that your father loved fast cars… I did not know. Just took the class on micro-currents with Dennis.
Keep up the good work about your projects and health. So happy to hear that the scleroderma has not progressed.
    Love and Hugs,
    Danielle

I’m impressed you were able to organize your own summit. The one thing that came to me as I watched those hundreds of hours was how much work that must be to put one together! Good for you! Your work with seniors sounds really beneficial. I love your list of subjects. You covered the crucial areas of wholeness in life.

The topical is hydrogen peroxide (food grade), aloe vera, and glycerine gel. There is information under Hydrogen Peroxide Cure on the internet. I’m also putting a combination of Frankincense and Myrrh essential oils (Young Living therapeutic grade) in V-6 oil on Hedy’s foot pads and letting her lick the residue off my hands for internal input. The apricot seeds are excellent for skin tumors. A friend told me his 14 year-old Lab had fatty tumors that are almost gone now. Hedy gets 4 in the morning and 4 at night. I also got her off processed food and added raw broccoli and carrots. Omega 3s with EPA/DHA are helpful for immune support. She gets 2 Tablespoons twice a day.

Of course, you are able to muscle test supplementation. I tested Hedy on medicinal mushrooms. She needs only Mitake and Reishi — 1 of each per day. I’m trying to be very specific in what she gets, and not overload her with unnecessary substances to process. Hope your pit regains his strength. It’s so hard to see our animals suffer! You might also check for glyphosate poisoning. My neighbors spray their yards with Roundup and Hedy was absorbing it through her paws.

Wonderful news about books, travels, and Hedy, and of course you too. Thanks so much for sharing. In time, as begin to catch up and gain more time, we will want to read those books. We know they both will be fantastic. Sending much love your way.

Hi, Alice. In your busy schedules, hope you and Ken will be able to fit both books in. You are familiar with microcurrent, and I think you’ll enjoy the stories behind it. Plus you have pioneered plenty of things yourselves, including all those puppy raisers you nurtured into being wonderful producers of excellent guide dogs, including Hedy. I will be forever thankful to you and Heather, the 16 year old who wanted to raise a puppy for a person who severely needed one. Did you know she prayed a year that Hedy would go to the person God chose for her? And I prayed a year for the dog God would choose for me. Interestingly, at first Hedy and I couldn’t stand each other! But He really did make the right match, and we turned out to be perfect for one another.
